New Responsive Themes

Posted April 22, 2013

Responsive themes are finally here! We are so happy to announce that ten responsive themes also went live with today's new features.

What exactly are responsive themes? Responsive themes change layout based on the screen size of the media being used to view your website, meaning your visitors will be able to easily browse and navigate your website on their mobile devices as well as their computers.

Want to install one of these responsive themes? Simply look for the mobile icon when selecting your theme.

Big primary navigation changes and font styling!

Posted April 22, 2013

We're excited about the features included in today's new release and think you will be too when you see what they can do for your site! Here's what's new:

Enhanced font editor - we offered a version of this in a recent past release, but this release builds on those tools in a big way. Comprehensive control over all of your site's fonts in all of the areas you'd want control over is a click away - look for the Site Fonts button on your Toolbar.

Make a mistake? You can always revert your changes to the default settings, so don't worry - experiment and see what this new tool can do for your site!

Equally exciting is the new ability to create primary navigation dropdown menus! This has been a much anticipated feature and we're proud to offer it to you now.

To use this, mouse over your primary navigation area and click the edit button. Notice the new 'Add a Submenu' button on the left side? That's what you'll need to use to create a dropdown menu - simply drag it below an existing menu item on the right pane - where you want it to display amongst your other navigation links:

You'll then be able to label this dropdown item and choose whether or not the text should also serve as a link, or be unclickable and simply work to display the submenu items.

When you're done, you should see a structure such as this:

Save changes and take a look at your work - pretty cool, huh?

More to come, but we hope you enjoy these features and use them to make your site better than ever!

More new themes and some tips and tricks

Posted March 14, 2013

We've just put out a brand new release which adds 30 awesome new themes!

We've worked to come up with some fresh new ideas that we feel can be used by many members to add a special touch to their site's appearance - whether it be a corporate site, a site for your bed and breakfast, or one of several other personal/business themes. We encourage you to take a look and see if one of these will take your site to the next level! Not finding one that would make your site perfect? Get in touch and we'll see what we can whip up - we're always looking to expand our theme base for optimal variety - to offer something to everyone.

On the tips and tricks front - did you know you can now edit/delete credit card information? Just click on the 'Billing' heading after logging into your account and click on the "Manage Credit Cards" link - you'll then be taken to your list of cards - all of the cards you've used to make payments in this account:

Clicking the link will allow you to enter completely different card information if you want to simply change which card you're wanting to use in this account - for recurring billing, for example.

Watch for more tips and tricks in the future - some nifty things can be done with our mail services!

New themes!

Posted February 27, 2013

If you haven't already noticed, check out the 12 new themes we just added to our ever growing collection! Here's a preview:

To take a closer look, click on "Change Website Theme" on the "Manage Website" dropdown on your Toolbar. Want to see how it'll look for your site? Just apply the theme! Remember - applying a theme will not affect or otherwise modify any of the code, settings, or site content you've added - just the theme itself (if you've customized your theme source code, this will be lost, however).

Give them a try and let us know how they work out for you!

As summer draws to an end, the Jigsy team has been busy working to bring new features and enhancements to the builder!

A few notable new features include:

  • Users can now create a custom Sitemap
  • Page extensions can now be created, like .html .asp or .php to allow for redirecting pages from members' old sites
  • Several new favicons
  • Meta tags for pages improved - meta tags for pages changed from input fields to text area fields, to allow easier input
  • Pages dropdown to handle large sites modified to better display large number of pages - these will display width-wise
  • The first 200 characters of the beginning of a blog post are now automatically added to the post's meta description.

New Bravenet Web Apps component released!

Posted July 11, 2012

Our latest release features a brand new component - the Bravenet Web Apps component! Just look for the following icon in the component list while adding a new component:

Long time users of Bravenet's Web Apps will love this component for how easy it makes adding any of their registered apps to their Jigsy site. For those not familiar with what Bravenet has to offer, check out http://www.bravenet.com/ and sign up for an account to access them. That's it! All that is required is to:

  • Sign up for a Bravenet account if you don't already have one
  • Register the app you want to use with your Jigsy site

As there are some apps such as the Message Forum that Jigsy doesn't currently offer an equivalent of, we suggest Jigsy users take a look at what apps are offered to see if there is an app you can use to enhance your site!

Quickly Size Images

Posted June 27, 2012

Hello again!

It's  time for another update.    Since this feature should speed up the process of adding images, I'll make this update quick, too.  We've added a quick-size option to images.  Now when you are adding an image to your site you will see a new tab in the editor after selecting the image.  This new tab will have several pre-selected sizes that you can apply to your image.   Here's what it looks like:

Click on the image to enlarge

Shown above are  five basic options for square images.   You should be able to find a size that suits your needs from these options.   Also, if you have a rectangular image,  you can switch the toggle to show rectangular quick sizes.  For those with triangular and circular images, we're sorry.

That's it!  Now you can quickly add photos without needing to play around with pixel numbers,  sliders,  or any of that jazz.  Just choose your size and go.

Images of Gallery Changes

Posted May 30, 2012

Hello again,

We've released more changes to the builder this week.  The major changes we've made are to the Image Gallery service.  We've added some new setting options.  We've also changed the layout of the existing options to accommodate the new additions.   Lets take a look:

Image Gallery Settings

Here's how the new settings area for the Image Gallery looks.  Click for a larger view.

You'll notice that most of the same options are still present, only moved around a bit.  You can set the number of images to be displayed,  randomize the order, set thumbnail size and spacing, and also choose the style that the thumbnails will appear in.  I'll provide an example for that below.

You can also set the on-click behavior to either display the image directly, or start a full-screen slideshow of the images in the Gallery.   If you choose slideshow, you can set the speed at which the images will rotate.  You can also set whether or not to display titles and descriptions, and even choose to offer a button to download the images.

Thumbnail Style

This is pretty simple,  since the option itself is represented as an image.  Basically, the option on the left will display all of the thumbnails as the same size.  The option on the right will use the natural aspect ratio of the image for the thumbnails.  Wide images will have wide thumbnails, and tall images will have tall thumbnails.  Options, and examples below:

Simple enough!

Improve ALL the things!

Posted March 30, 2012

Once again we've been burning the midnight oil to produce some pretty nifty enhancements to the Jigsy builder.   Today we've released enhancements to our blogging service, editors and well... just about everything!  We're pretty excited about these updates as they address a number of concerns and suggestions that you've provided us with.  Let's take a look.

The first thing you may notice is that there's a whole new layout to the editors.  All of the same options are still there, but we've enhanced the interface for you.  We've moved the content templates  down from the top of the editor over to the left hand side.  This will give you more room to write out your posts and updates.  If you're not familiar with the "content template" functions, they allow you to easily set up paragraphs to work with or around photos, just as I'm doing in this paragraph.  Also, as you can see below, the editing tools are now pinned to the top of the editor now so they won't ever leave your sight again.

For you bloggers out there, we've introduced a feature you've all been asking for:  Auto-save!  Now when you're working on lengthy blog posts you won't have to worry about losing your unsaved changes to power outages, kids, gremlins, or any other sources of mischief and mayhem.   The auto-save option is enabled by default and will save a draft for you automatically every minute.   You can disable it if you like by clicking on a check box located at the bottom of the editor.   Yes, I did say "draft" back there.  You can save your changes as a draft if you're not quite sure that you like them, or if you simply don't have time to finish a post you started.   I'm heavily relying on this new feature already!  When you save as a draft the post will still show up in your editor, but it will be greyed out.  This will allow you to preview what it should look like when you go live.

Here's what the post options look like:

You can see that there is a check box to toggle the auto save feature, and the buttons to save your post as a draft, or publish live if you're ready to show what you've got  to the world wide web.

But wait, there's more!

We've redesigned the way you add and move blocks on your pages.   We've replaced the old anchors with shiny, slick new ones.  This should give you a much cleaner interface to work with when adding new blocks to your pages.  The placement and function of each location on your page will now be clear as day.

We have also changed how your existing blocks will behave when you're moving an existing block to a new location.  Before, blocks would jump and shift around wildly as you tried to find the perfect new spot for your block.  No more.  Now the existing blocks will wait patiently for you to finish your action before they jump up and move to accommodate your change.

That's all for this week!

New Image Cropping Feature

Posted February 16, 2012

This week we're unveiling our new Image Cropping Tool!

We've been working day and night the last few weeks and we hope that you love this first new feature as much as we do. The Image Cropping tool makes it so much easier to work with photos that before just didn't seem to fit quite right.

Let's take a look at replacing the main template graphic. When you place your mouse on the template graphic youwill see a modify option. Click on "Modify" which will open a box for you to select where the new image should come from. Choose from your own gallery, our ample stock photography gallery or upload image of your choice.

Select the image that you want to use and click "Use Selected image". Now for the fun part! You will now be brought to the Crop and Resize feature. First, make sure "Crop" is "ON" before slicing and dicing this photo down to size! Resize the image how you would like it to appear on your site. Make the crop area bigger or smaller using the handles around the image, click and drag with your mouse to resize. You can also zoom in on the image by using the slider at the top of the page.

Remember that the width of the image box on your screen is the maximum width your image can be for the area you are placing it in. Dragging your crop area to fill the entire width of the box will fill the width of that area on your website.

In this case I want to crop the image to include only the building while removing the water from this shot. If you don't like the image you have selected you can click the "Change Image" at the top to select a different one.

When you are done, click "Insert Image." Still not happy with the way your image looks? Clicking modify on your header again will take you right back to where you were; in case you want to zoom your image in a little more or crop it slightly different. Don't like your image at all? Mouse over your theme image and click "Use Default" - this will revert your image back to the theme default.

Stay Tuned.  Next post will be about another new feature on Image Management!
